Finalizing a process that began years ago, approximately 521.60 acres of land in Flagstaff was sold at an auction to a Scottsdale-based company by the Arizona State Land Department for $17.5 million on June 3.

Located south of Interstate 40 and just west of University Heights, the parcel completely surrounds Equestrian Estates and extends south to De Miguel Elementary School. South Woody Mountain Road is the boundary on the west side of the land, with the property line angling to the east in order to exclude two W. L. Gore & Associates buildings.

Four bidders participated in the auction at the Coconino County Superior Courthouse, including two local developers. David Hayward of Square Peg Development, who initiated the site assessment in October 2021, and Brian Rhoton of Capstone Homes were joined by Sebastean Lesch, who listed a Phoenix address, and the eventual winner Scott Roberts.
