Not only is Frye Road going to get a fresh repaving out of an upcoming project, it’s going to become one of the most bicycle-friendly streets in Chandler.
The road, from San Marcos Park to Homestead North Park, will be where a nearly $15 million, grant-funded makeover takes place.
The main modification will be protected bike lanes.
The project was called for in the city’s 2020 Transportation Master Plan. With a preliminary design, public outreach and design complete, senior transportation planner Jason Crampton presented about the project at last month’s Council Connectivity Subcommittee meeting.
“The road surface is aging and will probably need to be repaved soon anyway, so it works out well that we’re permitted to use this sort of grant funding for repaving,” Crampton told the subcommittee of Chandler City Council members O.D. Harris, Jane Poston and Mark Stewart.
