Gilbert broke ground Tuesday on the long-anticipated Ocotillo Bridge, a public works project that will link Ocotillo Road from Higley to Greenfield, cut public safety response times and give more access to Gilbert Regional Park.
The 0.85-mile span over washes in the south end of Gilbert Regional Park land will accommodate pedestrians, bicyclists, and vehicles. It is expected to be completed in summer 2026.
Currently, Ocotillo Road ends a couple blocks east of Greenfield Road at a Roosevelt Water Conservation District canal. It picks back up at Higley Road.
The town also has a capital improvement project to widen Ocotillo Road to minor arterial road standards from that ending point on Greenfield west to 148th Street.
