GRIC celebrates new police building

SACATON — The Gila River Police Department celebrated the opening of its new home with the community with expectations it will be there for generations to come.

On Friday morning, guests, speakers and GRPD members met under a white tent near the new facility at 637 W. Gu U Ki St.

Gov. Stephen Roe Lewis began the ceremony, and a prayer was offered by Harry Antone.

Attendees on hand to see the 49,000-square-foot facility included Biden administration Senior Adviser Tom Perez, Senior Adviser to the assistant secretary for Indian affairs Tracy Canard Goodluck and multiple Gila River Indian Community officials and tribal leaders from across Arizona.
