A former Fry’s Electronics store near Interstate 17 and Thunderbird Road will be the new home of some of Phoenix’s first responders.
The Aztec themed big-box retail store, which closed in 2021, will become the new home of the Cactus Park Police Precinct — currently is operating out of a building city leaders say is far too small and outdated — and a new fire station.
Phoenix City Council voted unanimously last week to authorize the city manager to purchase the 12.5-acre property.
Councilmember Ann O’Brien represents District 1, which includes the property. She said she was “ecstatic” about giving the Cactus Park Precinct a better building.
“We’re excited to show the men and women of the Phoenix Police Department that we do value them,” O’Brien said.
