Smith, Freeman leading the pack in early results from Mesa mayor

Mesa Mayor John Giles is leaving at the end of his term, and five candidates are vying to fill in the empty seat.

As of 9:20 p.m. on July 30, here is where the race stands.

Former Mesa Mayor Scott Smith currently leads the field with 30.9% of the vote at 16,875 while Mesa city Councilmember Mark Freeman has 28.5% with 15,575 votes.
