Vice mayor takes large preliminary lead for Gilbert mayor

Vice Mayor Scott Anderson, a longtime Gilbert servant as staff member and on town council has jumped to a large early lead over Natalie DiBernardo for town mayor in the first results released from the Maricopa County Elections Department.

Meanwhile, Gilbert Town Council’s two open seats were at a razor-thin margin among the four candidates. Votes released just 8 p.m. Tuesday were early mail-in ballots.

Anderson, the lone current council member running for a seat though also for a promotion, has been a public works and parks director, served on council since 2016, done two stints as vice mayor and briefly was interim mayor in 2020 after Jenn Daniels stepped down. He also is considered the “Father of the Riparian Preserve” having pitched while working for the town.
