An attempt to get a conditional use permit for a drive-thru at a proposed business across from Florence High School on Main Street was denied by the Florence Town Council amid traffic concerns.
At its Monday meeting, the council voted 5-0 against approving the permit for the proposed business at 961 S. Main St. Councilmember Nicole Buccellato was not at the meeting and Vice Mayor Johnie Mendoza had not yet arrived at the meeting and missed the vote.
The request originally was put before the council at its June 3 meeting, but the issue was tabled after some councilors said they were reluctant to approve the permit without knowing what type of business would be occupying the space and how that could exacerbate traffic around the school.
The area’s zoning allows for restaurants but a conditional use permit is needed to operate a drive-thru.
The permit was being sought by Taz Khatri Studios and had been approved by the town’s planning and zoning commission with conditions.
