Pinal has water, panel says, and new rules will help

By Jodie Newell | Pinal Central

CASA GRANDE — Pinal  County has plenty of water available for growth and state rule changes are likely to facilitate usage, members of Pinal Alliance for Economic Growth were told during their annual luncheon Thursday.

A panel of experts and public officials was moderated by Terri Sue Rossi, vice president of water resources for Arizona Water Company. Also participating at Francisco Grande Resort were Pinal County Supervisor Steve Miller, R-Casa Grande, Casa Grande Mayor Craig McFarland, Executive Director of Pinal County Water Augmentation Authority Joe Singleton and President of Arizona Water Company Fred Schneider.

Schneider said there are plenty of lots in Pinal County that already have state Certificates of Assured Water Supply and that despite the “doom and gloom scenario” that some have alluded to, Arizona Water Company found during a 2016 survey that out of 40,000 available lots in its service area, 8,700 had been developed and some 31,000 remained. Schneider said the problem holding back development is many lots are not connected to local infrastructure.
