The Arizona Parks and Recreation Association awarded the city of Buckeye with the 2023 Facility of the Year Award for populations over 100,000 during their annual conference on Monday, Aug. 26 in Tucson, honoring the successful expansion of Sundance Park last year.

Sundance Park Phase Two brought a 38-acre expansion to the park, first opened in 2012, alongside a slew of family-friendly activities not available elsewhere in Buckeye. Located at 22865 W. Lower Buckeye, the park has the only splash pad in the city, a feature requested by residents, a three acre urban fishing lake stocked with an agreement through the Arizona Game and Fish Department and several sports fields.

“We really listened to our residents and the feedback that they provided, and we wanted to make sure that we delivered upon that,” said Robert Wisener, deputy director of the Community Services Department in Buckeye.
