The Scottsdale City Council approved a $43.7 million improvement to Scottsdale Road between Jomax Road and Dixileta Drive by a 5-1 vote Sept. 24.
That price point is a 215% increase over the original budget of $13.9 million set in 2019. It’s also $14.5 million over the estimated cost from about a year ago.
The project will improve drainage along to the two-mile stretch of road, as well as add raised medians, curbs and gutters, an east-side shared use path, westside sidewalk, a new right-turn bay at Dixileta and a roundabout at Dynamite Boulevard.
The project is ready to begin immediately.
The federal government is putting up $31.2 million for the project, leaving the city to cover approximately $12.5 million
“I’m super excited about this project,” city council member Tammy Caputi said. “We hear a lot of complaints about our roadways. Well, here we are doing amazing things with out roadways.”
