FLORENCE — Florence draws an average of $230,000 a month from Pinal County’s road maintenance tax, which comes up for renewal on the Nov. 5 ballot.
This half-cent sales tax, first passed almost 40 years ago, helps the county and its incorporated cities and towns preserve and build roads. Florence primarily uses the money for pavement preservation, according to a presentation Monday to the Town Council from Tara Harmon, Pinal transportation planning supervisor, and Chris Salas, Florence Public Works director and town engineer.
Voters originally passed the tax in 1986 and renewed it in 2005. The tax will be on the November ballot as Pinal County’s Proposition 486. If voters don’t renew it, it is set to expire at the end of 2026.
