The Phoenix Country Day School in Paradise Valley is proposing the construction of a new music building to replace the one currently on the site.

At its Sept. 3 meeting, the town’s planning commission held a work session to discuss the school’s request for a minor special use permit to construct the new music building. A public hearing on the matter will take place during the commission’s next meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 15.

The new music building will be in the same area as the old building near the western part of the campus, 3901 E. Stanford Drive, and will be 4,964 square feet larger than the existing building, according to a staff report. Additional lighting improvements will be made to the surrounding area.

The existing music building will be demolished and replaced by the new building. The new music building will perform the same functions as the current building.

To qualify as a minor amendment the applicant cannot add or change use, add more than 5,000 feet of floor area, have any significant material effect on adjoining properties or change the architecture.
