CASA GRANDE — The City Council rejected a request for a QuikTrip store and fuel station on McCartney Road over concerns about truck traffic.
The council voted 6-1 Monday against changing zoning from Urban Ranch to Planned Area Development on 5.8 acres at the southeast corner of McCartney and Tucker roads, near Interstate 10. The Planning and Zoning Commission had supported the request 5-2 earlier this year after adding conditions.
Staunch opposition was expressed from nearby residents of the McCartney Center neighborhood. Most of those concerns related to increased traffic and fears regarding potential prostitution, drug trafficking and human smuggling that might come with truck fueling.
