The city of Glendale revealed its completed Airport Eastside Development Plan during a city council workshop on Oct. 8 — two years after the governing body initiated the study.
The plan discusses the roadmap to develop 120 acres of land on the east side of Glendale Regional Airport. Its discoveries include the value of building a taxiway on the east side of the existing runway and improving utility infrastructure.
Located at the intersection of Glendale Avenue and Glen Harbor Boulevard, Glendale owns and operates its own airport. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reclassified the airport from municipal to regional airport in the National Plan for Integrated Airport Systems, changing its name from Glendale Municipal Airport to Glendale Regional Airport effective Sept. 5. It is a reliever airport, providing relief or added capacity to existing commercial airports in the area while offering general aviation services to the overall community.
