Tempe approves plan for student housing

Another student housing option is coming to Tempe after city council’s recent approval of a development plan review for a new eight-story mixed-use student housing development that will create nearly 300 dwelling units at 921 E Apache Blvd. 

Tempe City Council unanimously voted to approve the plan for Vale Student Housing at its Oct. 1 meeting, after previously receiving full support from Tempe’s Development Review Commission. 

Senior Planner Karen Stovall explained in a city staff report that the commission’s recommendation came with some conditions after errors were discovered in the project’s planned area development overlay with the proposed density and site’s acres. 

“If this project is approved, the applicant will need to revise the PAD to reflect the correct acreage and density,” Stovall stated.
