PEORIA, Ariz. — The City of Peoria is considering a new regulatory process to better keep watch over entities utilizing large amounts of the community’s water supply.
On Tuesday, the Peoria City Council was presented with a draft of an ordinance that would require non-residential water customers to obtain a permit if they plan to increase their water consumption.
“The City Council has determined that to best protect the rights, interests, safety, health, and welfare of the City and its residents, certain terms, conditions, limitations, and other requirements promoting conservation and efficient use of the City’s water resources should be established to ensure a sustainable water supply,” the Peoria ordinance states.
The permitting requirement would apply to future and existing customers who use more than 50,000 gallons of water per day on average for a one-year period or customers using more than 100,000 gallons in any 24-hour period.
