Maricopa County voters appear willing to continue paying a half cent sales tax to fund roads and transit infrastructure.
Proposition 479 jumped out to an early lead in with 62% of voters back it with about 42% of votes reporing.
The potential approval was hailed by Maricopa County backers as a way to move forward with transtportation in the region.
“Maricopa County voters have made it clear: we will continue to be a model for the nation when it comes to high-quality transportation options, safe roads, and access to bus service. Current and future residents from across the Valley will benefit for decades to come – passage of Proposition 479 marks an important milestone in our region’s history,” sayd Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego in a statement.
The measure, a half-cent sales dedicated to funding transportation around the region, has been approved by voters twice before dating to back to 1985 and again in 2004.
