Avondale drafts parks, recreation, libraries plan

By West Valley View

City staff and representatives from BerryDunn Local Government Practice Group presented a draft of the Parks, Recreation and Libraries Master Plan to Avondale City Council during its Nov. 18 meeting.

This allowed the governing body to provide feedback on the strategic guide used to aid staff in resource allocation, program development and planning for the city’s parks, libraries and recreation centers.

A series of surveys and community outreach by BerryDunn — an accounting and consulting firm — revealed the Avondale residents’ top priorities regarding programming, facilities and amenities, and identified the avenues the city can improve in its Parks and Recreation Department.

These surveys concluded that several of the city’s assets are valuable given their recent construction, such as the Mountain View Community Center and the Avondale Aquatic Complex. The city is efficient in its resource allocation and community engagement, but it needs to increase the number of full-time employees for the Parks, Recreation and Libraries Department to manage and maintain those assets.
