Land use changes approved for housing in Glendale

By Glendale Star

The Glendale City Council approved the rezoning of approximately 1.5 acres at the intersection of Orangewood Avenue and 43rd Avenue for a residential project titled “Kebede Residences,” named after the developer of the property. The development will include the development of seven — with a maximum of eight, according to city planning manager Tabitha Perry — single family residential lots and a 6,547-acre recreation park including a children’s playground and picnic areas.

The city council approved the rezoning and general plan amendment for a development plan entitled “Orangewood Meadows – II,” during their meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 26. The rezone changes the land designation from commercial office to single residence planned residential development. The city council also approved the required general plan amendment necessary for Kebede Residences to move forward, changing its usage designation from office to medium-high density residential.

The development is at the northwest corner of Orangewood Avenue and 43rd Avenue, just two miles from Glendale City Hall, and the land use designation and zoning allow for a variety of developments to move forward on the property. While the property can have as many as eight residential lots, the site layout plan depicts seven housing lots. This will be a gated community.
