Chandler’s lobbyists told the City Council there are two major concerns they are watching when a new legislative session starts in January: Housing and water.
And they are related.
“Another issue that we’re expecting, … relates to water,” said Ryan Peters, the city’s Strategic Government Initiatives director. “The pressure of trying to solve the housing crisis is also putting pressure on trying to solve the water crisis and create new paper water opportunities so that housing can continue to be built.”
“Paper water” refers to a community’s rights to water that rests in aquifers. To build a new development, there must be a supply of water to support it.
