And the “If At First You Don’t Succeed Award” goes to …
If there was such an award in Scottsdale, few could argue it going to Mercado Village.
By a 6-1 vote Dec. 4, City Council gave the project on Shea Boulevard and 92nd Street – across from HonorHealth Hospital – its long-awaited blessing.
The developer’s winning switch-and-pitch: condos, rather than apartments.
Developer Chris Loeffler emailed City Council Dec. 2, confirming a deed restriction will require Mercado Village to offer its 235 units as for-sale condominiums.
The existing office buildings next to Sprouts grocery and a deli has been vacant for years.
“To our knowledge,” Loeffler added, “this would be the first condo use project approved in the surrounding 5-plus mile radius in many years.”
