Sonoran Desert Parkway needs big infusion of funds to finish

The group behind a planned Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway expansion project wants to hear from residents this week. 

Pinal County hired Tempe-based Jacobs Engineering to study a proposed roadway extension called the “East-West Corridor” that would redevelop MCG as a route from Maricopa to Interstate 10 in Casa Grande. 

The first leg of the corridor, the $30 million Sonoran Desert Parkway, opened in the fall of 2023 connecting Porter Road to John Wayne Parkway near Harrah’s Ak-Chin Casino. The opening came after months of drama and turmoil between the Indian community and the city of Maricopa.
