West Mesa housing project riles neighbors

A developer wants to put 68 townhouses on the site of his childhood home near Main Street and Alma School Road in West Mesa.

The proposed Lofts at 121 project is seeking a rezone, which the Mesa Planning and Zoning Board on Jan. 22 voted 5-0 to recommend council approval despite opposition from neighbors. The 3.14-acre site includes two lots.

“This is a bit of a more unique project for me,” said Tim Boyle of Atmosphere Architects, the project applicant. “One of my mother’s best friends lived in this house. One of my good friends, Jeremy, lived in this house as he was growing up.
