ELOY — Since its inception, Skydive Arizona and the Eloy Municipal Airport have worked hand-in-hand to better the business of the skydiving facility and the airport itself.
However, wording within the proposed final draft of the upcoming Airport Master Plan seems to have rubbed some in the skydiving community the wrong way.
During the Monday, Feb. 10 meeting, the Eloy City Council was to approve the final draft of the Airport Master Plan. The document serves as a strategic blueprint for guiding future development, driving economic growth, expanding operational capacity and advancing sustainability initiatives.
However, during the public appearances portion of the meeting, Skydive Arizona operator Shawn Hill rose to speak on specific language within the document that calls skydiving a threat to the airport.
“I fundamentally disagree with this notion. Since 1991, we have been operating here and the traffic pattern has not ever been impacted by our operations,” Hill said at the meeting.
