Former Phoenix Police land approved for high-rises

With the Phoenix Police relocating its headquarters, Phoenix City Council is making plans to redevelop two parking lots for the old headquarters building.

Council last week unanimously approved general plan and zoning changes that allow for higher buildings and more density on the city-owned property between Adams and Jefferson streets and Seventh and Eighth avenues, except for a privately-owned building at the southwest corner of the lot.

The change was from a designation of medium urban center to downtown core, meaning the height limitations on buildings are extended from 30 feet to 250 feet and the residential density is increased from 14.5 units per acre to 218.
