A proposal to build 120 luxury apartment units at Power and Guadalupe roads in southeast Mesa garnered the support of the Planning and Zoning Board last week but not from nearby Superstition Springs residents who complained about the increased traffic and student safety.

Park North, proposed on 5 vacant acres adjacent to Monterey Park and across Guadalupe Road from a Gilbert school, is seeking a rezone and a council use permit. The case is expected to go before Council in April, according to  staff.

“I do have some real concerns,” said Bonnie Hickman, a Gilbert Public Schools sixth-grade teacher whose home was the third house built in the neighborhood. “Even if you assume that only one and a half cars per apartment, you’re looking at 180 minimum entering onto Guadalupe that is directly across the street from Highland Junior High. It is a ridiculously dangerous intersection.”
