A $5 million gap in Gilbert’s System Development Services Department revenue and expenditures has prompted town officials to examine the town’s fee structure for new developers.
At the council’s financial retreat last week, Kyle Mieras, Gilbert’s development services director, and Joseph Hewitt, a town management and budget analyst, previewed the town development fees’ present framework and future steps it might need to take.
System development fees are charged to new commercial and residential developers to pay for public services like planning work and reviews, building permits, inspections and engineering services.
