A pair of Valley economic leaders weighed in on recent reports that big changes might be in the works for how one of the region’s largest semiconductor manufacturers is structured.
Both Micah Miranda and Chris Camacho agree it will take time to see exactly how the likely changes with Intel Corp. will affect the Valley’s tech economy.
The Wall Street Journal reported in late February that leaders of the San Jose, California-based tech giant Broadcom had met with Intel leadership. The report speculates Intel, which likely must make a change of some type due to a series OF financial setbacks, might sell off at least part of its $100 billion-valuation operations, or enter into a partnership with an even bigger company.
On March 3, Reuters reported Santa Clara, California-based Nvidia, which has been heavily involved in designing hardware and chips for artificial intelligence applications, and Broadcom are running manufacturing tests with Intel, according to two sources familiar with the matter. This could mean the companies are moving closer to deciding if they’ll commit hundreds of millions of dollars’ worth of manufacturing contracts to Intel, the report states.
