Wittmann residents fearful about proposed railyard

By William Pitts | 12 News

A massive railroad project planned for rural Wittmann has residents fearing for their homes, land, and way of life.

Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad (BNSF) wants to build an intermodal hub — a 4,000-acre facility where cargo is transferred between trucks and trains — in Wittmann, a city northwest of central Phoenix.

The hub would also include storage and distribution centers. But for residents, what it includes doesn’t change their opinion.

“We do not want this industrial facility out here,” said Kirby Anderson, whose ranch borders the site. “Go somewhere else with it.”

BNSF told 12News the Logistics Park Phoenix or LPP project is a “$3.2 billion investment in Arizona.”
