Action deferred on downtown Mesa townhome plan

Mesa City Council last week sent the developer of a 66-unit townhouse project proposed in downtown Mesa back to the drawing board after neighbors complained about increased traffic, the density and adverse impact to property values.

Lofts at 121 is requesting a rezone on approximately 3 acres at Beverly and Second Street from single residence to multifamily. 

“The lofts at 121 proposal is incompatible with the identity, values and safety of this historical Mesa neighborhood,” Brett Stephensen said at the April 7 meeting. “Its approval would be a serious breach of the responsibility this council holds to protect the communities it serves.
