ADOT seeks input on North-South Corridor project

By San Tan Valley

The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) is asking for public input as it starts a new phase of work on the North-South Corridor project. This new study will focus on the northern part of the corridor, covering about 20 miles between Apache Junction and Florence.ADOT is beginning a Tier 2 Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for Segment 1, which runs from US 60 to Arizona Farms Road. This phase will look at why the project is needed, suggest possible freeway paths within the area chosen during an earlier study, and review where interchanges might go.

To gather feedback, ADOT is holding public meetings in May. These meetings will explain the study and give people a chance to share their thoughts about the proposed routes and the project’s goals. The public comment period is open through June 10.

The North-South Corridor, also known as State Route 505, is being studied to help improve travel in the area. The goals include:

  • Making it easier for people to travel in the growing communities
  • Providing better access to new developments and busy areas
  • Improving overall travel throughout the region
  • Giving drivers another choice besides Interstate 10 to help reduce traffic
  • Helping people travel north and south more easily
  • Connecting to the area’s larger transportation network

Public meeting is scheduled:

Tuesday, May 20, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Poston Butte High School
32375 N. Gantzel Road, San Tan Valley
