What are IKEA’s West Valley plans after Phoenix news?

IKEA’s plans to open a new store in Phoenix in early 2026 has left chances for a store in Surprise up in the air.

The Swedish furniture giant announced this week it was opening its third location in the Valley at the southwest corner of Tatum Boulevard and Cactus Road, directly across from the Paradise Valley Mall redevelopment.

Surprise Economic Development Director Jeanine Jerkovic said the city is aware of the news, but she couldn’t speculate on what it means for Surprise’s chances at landing residents’ most-desired retailer in the recent Surprise Retail Survey.

“I just don’t have any information on their business model or plans,” Jerkovic said.

The planned IKEA Phoenix will be a single-story store offering home furnishing accessories and about 75 small furniture items. At 75,000 square feet, IKEA Phoenix will be a smaller-format store compared to the 375,000-square-foot IKEA Tempe that opened in 2004, Arizona Market Manager Kori Thorstenson told the Independent earlier this week.
