El Mirage mayor named MAG chair

By InBusiness Phoenix

El Mirage Mayor Alexis Hermosillo was elected as chair of the Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) Regional Council during the agency’s annual meeting. As the agency’s new chair, Hermosillo said her top priority is ensuring the promises of Proposition 479 become a reality. Mayor Hermosillo, who previously served as MAG Vice Chair, succeeds Chandler Mayor Kevin Hartke, who becomes Past Chair. Buckeye Mayor Eric Orsborn will serve as Vice Chair. Queen Creek Mayor Julia Wheatley will serve as Treasurer.

At-large members elected to the MAG Regional Council Executive Committee include:

  • Mayor Kate Gallego, City of Phoenix
  • Mayor Mark Freeman, City of Mesa
  • Mayor Jerry Weiers, City of Glendale
  • The MAG Regional Council is a 32-member board that serves as the governing and policy-making body for MAG.

“My focus in the year ahead will be to build on the foundation we’ve laid to ensure that Proposition 479’s promise becomes a visible reality across our vast region,” said Chair Hermosillo.

“We will continue to take bold steps to address homelessness, support housing accessibility, and advance visionary initiatives like Rio Reimagined. Environmental resilience will remain a top priority. We will champion innovative, science-driven strategies to advance clean air and public health in the region and continue to lead by example through strong partnerships not just in Arizona, but the Intermountain West,” noted Hermosillo.
