Northwest valley residents are preparing to fight against the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway putting a massive facility onto 4,320 acres of rural area encompassing Wittmann and neighboring communities.
Hundreds of signatures were collected from late afternoon to evening, June 5, at the Dillon’s Western Trails Ranch, 37839 W. Grand Ave. in Morristown, when droves of people arrived by dusk to sign petitions to vote “No on this proposed zoning change that would allow BNSF Railway to construct an intermodal hub in Wittmann,” as stated on the letters addressed to Maricopa County Board of Supervisors.
“I do all the paperwork behind the scenes,” said Valerie Howell, of Morristown, noting more than 1,400 signed petitions already received online against the presence of the BNSF hub and more than 2,000 against solar panels in the rural area.
