WATCH: Lawmaker discusses Arizona animal cruelty bill

(Disclosure: Rose Law Group represents Arizona Humane Society, which is lobbying for this bill.)

Rep. Matt Gress, R-Phoenix, speaks to the “urgency” of adding clarity to current animal cruelty laws by approving SB 1658. As has been reported, the measure would “define what it means for a pet to have adequate food, shelter and water and tighten the language regarding pets suffering from a lack of medical attention.” Background: The effort comes after ‘Chandler 55,’ a 2023 case in which investigators “seized 55 special needs dogs” from a home where they were “living in horrific conditions.”
