The Avondale City Council voted 5-2 to approve a development agreement with Sierra Luna Energy Storage LLC on July 7. The decision follows the power facility’s presentation on June 16 for an expansion plan for development in the community on July 7.
“Thank you, team, for sticking around for the evening,” Mayor Mike Pineda said. “We appreciate all you brought to the table and the investment near our city.”
The proposition sought the council’s approval for Sierra Luna to begin development on a 150-megawatt private battery energy storage system (BESS) on roughly 18.5 acres of land located in unincorporated Maricopa County — north of the northeast corner of S. Avondale Boulevard and West Broadway Road, directly east and south of the jurisdictional boundary of the city of Avondale.
