Affordable housing development breaks ground in Tucson

By Real Estate Daily News

Tucson Mayor Regina Romero will join Ann Chanecka, Director of the City’s Housing and Community Development (HCD) Department, to break ground on Sugar Hill on Stone, a new affordable housing community at 1910 N. Stone Avenue. The ceremony will take place Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2025, from 8:30–9:30 a.m. Attendance is by invitation only.

Sugar Hill on Stone will deliver 66 affordable apartments—with 37 homes reserved for families and individuals currently residing in the Tucson House—advancing equitable reinvestment in a historically disenfranchised and disinvested neighborhood. The project is the third residential development by El Pueblo Housing Development, HCD’s nonprofit development arm, and represents one of the early phases of the City’s $50 million Choice Neighborhoods Implementation Grant awarded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) in 2023.
