Phoenix-based Vestar has been planning to build a $130 million commercial retail and dining center in Laveen. As part of its initial development agreement with the city, the developer would have needed to repurpose a historically significant barn on the site.
But last year, the barn suffered severe damage from a fire, rendering it unable to be “successfully restored due to major structural damage,” according to an item on Phoenix’s City Council agenda for its Aug. 27 meeting.
