Next steps for San Tan Valley

By San Tan Valley News

The Pinal County Board of Supervisors is preparing to appoint San Tan Valley’s first temporary town council following voter approval of incorporation earlier this month. The election results are scheduled to be canvassed and certified on Monday, August 18, with the Board expected to present the appointment process at its next meeting on Wednesday, August 27.

Board Chairman Stephen Miller placed the discussion on the Aug. 13 agenda, noting that both he and other supervisors have already been contacted by residents expressing interest in serving on the new council.

Miller recommended that supervisors avoid meeting individually with potential applicants before a formal process is in place.

“To keep a level playing field, interaction with individuals that may be seeking those positions would be improper because you might not get to talk to everybody,” Miller said. “We should keep it all in the open and out in front of us.”

Supervisor Mike Goodman agreed, saying he has declined any one-on-one meetings about the appointments.

“This is a decision that all five of us are going to have to make,” Goodman said, adding that the Board cannot take any action until the election is canvassed.
