‘Predatory real estate scam’ stripped homes from owners in Arizona

PHOENIX — Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes announced Monday her office is suing “predatory” entities who lured vulnerable homeowners into signing away ownership of their property.

At a minimum, hundreds of people have been victimized by an alleged real estate scam that’s at the center of a civil complaint being brought by the law enforcement agency, officials said.

The defendants in the lawsuit being filed by Mayes’ office are accused of presenting themselves as professionals who could help homeowners at risk of foreclosure. But the attorney general’s office said the defendants were tricking these individuals into signing over the deeds of their homes.
