The Flagstaff City Council voted Tuesday to adopt an adaptive reuse program designed to use funding from a 2022 bond to repurpose buildings in the city into affordable housing.
The item was presented by Jennifer Mikelson, the city’s housing planning manager, at the Sept. 2 Council meeting after zoning code manager Tiffany Antol presented the related code changes.
The program was developed as a way to meet one of the objects outlined in Proposition 442, the housing bond approved by Flagstaff voters in 2022. That bond allocated $3 million to repurpose existing buildings into rental units, with a stated goal of creating at least 75 units.
