Thomas Galvin, Maricopa County Board chairman, District 2 supervisor, and Rose Law Group partner, visited with KTAR News 92.3 FM’s The Mike Broomhead Show on Tuesday. Here are some takeaways from the conversation…
Oversight without end: For the past 15 years, a court-appointed monitor has been providing federal oversight ofMaricopa County Sheriff’s Office, much to the detriment to taxpayers ($350 million & counting) and public safety. “I just think it’s outrageous,” Galvin says.
Sex-ed book policy: As has been reported, the county “relocated kids’ sex-ed books to the tops of shelves in adult non-fiction section at 12 of its 14 Valley libraries… ‘We’re threading the needle and this is about parental choice,’” Galvin explains. “However, if parents are okay with their child accessing certain books, those books are still available.”
Election issues: With a special election later this month, Galvin addressed the ongoing legal dispute regarding respective administration responsibilities of the county and the recorder’s office. “I think we’re going to be successful, but I have no idea on the timeline because it’s going to work its way through the court system,” Galvin says.
