A federal judge could soon reopen the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, better known as DACA, sparking hope and hesitation for thousands of young immigrants in Arizona and across the country.
The program was paused four years ago, and since then, many young immigrants in Arizona have been left waiting in limbo.
While a court ruling could allow new applications, Arizona advocates say the community must proceed carefully. “It’s a very significant and positive development,” said immigration attorney Darius Amiri.
In Arizona, where an estimated 23,000 people rely on DACA protections, Amiri said the news of a possible reopening of the program is spreading quickly.
