Developer secures financing for north Phoenix sports complex

A real estate developer based in Texas recently secured the finances needed to complete a sports academy and hotel in Phoenix, which had its construction paused, according to a Monday release.

SSS Partners, which took over the dual project in 2023, closed on the land located at the Interstate 17 and Sonoran Desert Drive for $183 million and said it now has an estimated completion date of August 2026.

It had already been about 50% complete before being in “limbo for six years.”

The sports academy, to be known as SSS Sports Academy, will take up 17.5 acres and offer an 181,000-square-foot multi-use complex and arena for those in grades nine through 12. The facilities will include a full-size gymnasium and several fields to host tournaments and provide athletic training for hockey, basketball, volleyball, soccer and pickleball.
