Three Arizona lawmakers are calling for an end to the investigation into Sen. Mark Kelly by the Pentagon after Kelly’s involvement in a video calling for U.S. troops to defy “illegal orders.”
Arizona Congressman Greg Stanton, along with Congresswomen Yassamin Ansari and Adelita Grijalva, penned a letter to Secretary Pete Hegeth asking him to immediately close the Department of Defense’s investigation of Kelly.
The letter says in part:
“We write today in strong opposition to your Department’s investigation of Senator Mark Kelly of Arizona.
Last week, Senator Kelly and five other Members of Congress who previously served in the U.S. military or intelligence community released a video restating a core principle of current law and military doctrine: service members must obey lawful orders and are not required to carry out unlawful ones.”
On Nov. 24, the Pentagon announced it was investigating the Democrat for possible breaches of military law after he and other lawmakers released a video addressing service members, telling them they “can refuse illegal orders.” The video prompted a harsh response from President Donald Trump, calling the video “seditious behavior.”
