CASA GRANDE — Water conservation and reuse is the goal of a joint effort by the city and Arizona Water Company. The Save It! campaign was discussed at a City Council study session on Jan. 5.
Company representatives President Fred Schneider and Vice President Terri Sue Rossi informed councilmembers about the progress in the effort. City Manager Larry Rains told councilmembers the partnership is “strong” and that a “hefty goal” of the city is to focus on water conservation.
“Seven or eight years ago we really began down a path to evaluate our water resources, particularly in Casa Grande but certainly that expanded to the Pinal AMA (Active Management Area) and one of the hefty goals that we’ve established as a group was conservation, a water demand management program, which is really focused on conservation,” Rains said. “We’ve tagged it as “Save It” and we’ve been in partnership with Arizona Water.”
Schneider said that when AWC and the city began formulating a strategy for saving groundwater several years ago, three key considerations became apparent. “In order to protect our quality of life, help meet the future needs and grow our economy, we need to do three things. We need to reduce our reliance on groundwater, invest in sustainable water supplies and use the water we have more efficiently.”
