Mayor Jon Thompson provided some insight into what the city achieved throughout the past year and looked ahead at 2026 during his quarterly Breakfast with the Mayor for the Chamber of Commerce.
The update started with some accomplishments from the last year, including the city purchasing the former Pinal County Supervisor building to turn it into a city court building, the opening of Firehouse Subs in the Safeway Plaza on Arizona Boulevard, “strong” home and commercial permits, the completion of the Taxiway C and Apron Project, moving earth for Regional Park, Lucid Motors purchasing and retooling the Coolidge Nikola plant and that multiple parks to see some upgradesover 2026.
With the completion of the Taxiway C and Apron Project, the city is looking to add additional security to the airport by installing a gate at the main entrance, which will be controlled by onsite airport users and city staff. Thompson teased more to come as the city is “working with the state” but could not say more due to it being “in preliminary stages” of discussion.
