Florence advertising for economic development director

By Mark Cowling | Pinal Central

FLORENCE — The town is advertising for an economic development director again, and some Town Council members said it’s about time.

Councilmember Tony Bencina said during the council’s Jan. 13 meeting that an Arizona Commerce Authority vice president told him last summer, “Nobody’s talking to me about Florence.”

“We have put economic development on the back burner for so many years in this town, it’s time to get it front; otherwise we’re going to find some struggles how we replace the money we’re losing.”

Bencina said Queen Creek has an economic development commission that has been successful. He said he hoped the council would agree to have one in Florence, hopefully working with an economic development director.
