Some major Arizona cities are voicing their support for an ambitious housing affordability plan by Democratic U.S. Sen. Reuben Gallego that calls for reforming local zoning restrictions, creating new first-time home owner tax credit programs and much more to tackle the state’s housing crisis.
Arizona, like most of the country, has been facing a housing affordability crisis. Evictions in the state have continued to break records as more affordable options, such as mobile homes, have continued to vanish.
To turn the tide, Gallego has a policy plan framework called “The Path Home” that he hopes will turn into legislation to help mitigate the affordable housing crisis.
The 36-page document details the four major pillars shaping his policy ideas: Build more homes, clear the path, lower housing costs and future-proof homes.
The plan already has support from officials from three major Arizona cities.
